The first thing you’ll want to do is head over to Trezor.io/start. This official page is your launchpad for everything related to setting up and managing your Trezor device.
Trezor offers two amazing models:
Trezor Model One: Perfect for beginners, this model supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies and is user-friendly.
Trezor Model T: This premium option features a color touchscreen, enhanced security, and supports even more cryptocurrencies.
Pick the model you have, and let’s move on!
On the Trezor start page, you’ll find a link to download Trezor Suite. This software is essential for managing your wallet.
Desktop Version: Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The desktop version is recommended for the best security.
Web Version: You can also use the web interface, but it’s safer to use the desktop app whenever possible.
After downloading, install the application and open it.
Now, connect your Trezor to your computer using the USB cable included with your device. You’ll see a welcome message on your Trezor screen.
When you first connect your Trezor, you may need to install the latest firmware. Trezor Suite will prompt you to do this. Just follow the on-screen instructions!
Confirm the installation on both your computer and your Trezor device.
If prompted, disconnect and reconnect your Trezor after the installation.
After the firmware installation, you’ll be given the option to create a new wallet or recover an existing one. If you’re new, select “Create a New Wallet.”
Generate Your Recovery Seed: Your Trezor will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed. This is a crucial step—write it down on paper and keep it safe!
Important: Never share your recovery seed with anyone, and do not store it digitally.
To add an extra layer of security, you’ll need to set a PIN. This PIN will be required every time you access your Trezor device. Choose a strong and unique PIN that you can remember.
For those looking for even more security, Trezor allows you to set up an optional passphrase. This serves as an additional layer of protection and is particularly useful for advanced users. If you choose to set a passphrase, make sure to remember it!
Now that your wallet is set up, it’s time to add cryptocurrency accounts!
Go to the Accounts section in Trezor Suite.
Select the cryptocurrencies you want to store. Trezor supports many popular coins like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and more.
With everything set up, you’re ready to send and receive cryptocurrencies securely.
